Knotty White Pine lumber is an economical choice of wood to use. These timbers have been surfaced smooth on all sides and used for rustic mantels. Knotty white pine is more economical than Doug Fir or Cedar, but is not as stable of a wood as doug fir and cedar and can have slight movement and twisting.
The timbers come in wet and as the board dries, it will likely gain some checks and cracks which helps give it a rustic look. This is typical for the larger timbers. There will be some drying that has occurred before you receive the timber. Please allow timber to dry to a 15% to 19% moisture rate before sealing or coating.
