Poplar Hardwood Boards
Poplar hardwood is a versatile, lightweight, and easy-to-work-with wood valued for its smooth texture, consistent grain, and excellent paintability. Its pale white to light greenish-brown color may include subtle gray or purple tones, giving each board a natural, distinctive appearance. Poplar is a practical choice for both DIY projects and professional woodworking.
Available in a wide range of thicknesses from 4/4 through 12/4, Poplar is also offered in 2" x 2" and 3" x 3" square dowels. Choose from unfinished boards in:
- S4S: Cleanly surfaced on all four sides and ready to use—ideal for DIY projects and applications requiring minimal preparation.
- S2S1E: Surfaced on two faces with one straight, clean edge. This economical option gives woodworkers greater flexibility for milling and custom sizing.
Characteristics of Poplar Hardwood
Poplar is lightweight, easy to work with, and features a fine, generally straight grain with a smooth texture. It sands easily and accepts paint, stain, and other finishes well. Its stability and softer nature make it beginner-friendly and ideal for interior woodworking projects. Natural color variations add character, especially under a clear finish.
