Product Description
Knotty Douglas Fir Mantel Timbers
Douglas fir timbers—also known as Oregon pine—are a strong, durable, and versatile choice for rustic and structural woodworking projects. More stable and denser than many pine options, Douglas fir is also harder and more dense than cedar, making it an excellent material for long-lasting interior applications.
These timbers feature a knotty character and a smooth surface, combining natural rustic appeal with dependable strength. They are especially popular for fireplace mantels and heavy-duty shelving, but can also be used for:
- Floating shelves and display ledges
- Dining, coffee, and console table tops
- Benches and seating
- Furniture components
- Countertops and bar tops
- Stair treads and accent beams
- Headboards and architectural features
- Workbenches and shop tables
- Rustic cabinetry and built-ins
- Interior trim and decorative beams
Douglas fir timbers are ideal for mantels because they offer the strength needed to support substantial weight while providing a warm, natural appearance. The knots, grain variation, cracks, and checks add character and create an authentic rustic look.

Timbers are supplied green or wet, although some drying may occur before delivery. As the wood dries, larger timbers may develop additional cracks, checks, or minor movement—natural characteristics that enhance their rustic appearance.
