Important Installation Information
Before purchasing G3 Pathway Stabilizer, please confirm that your project meets the following requirements:
- Suitable applications: Residential pathways, patios, landscaping areas, and planter beds.
- Recommended material: Use a clean, angular crushed-stone mix containing a consistent blend of stone, fines, and stone dust. The recommended size is ⅜-inch minus to ½-inch minus, with ⅜-inch-minus decomposed granite (DG) strongly recommended. Crushed limestone, granite screenings, and similar qualified materials may also be suitable.
- Material condition: Aggregate should contain no dirt, clay, or sand and should have less than approximately 3% moisture. Always perform a test section first to confirm compatibility.
- Required base: Install over a properly prepared and compacted subbase approximately 2–4 inches deep, with a 1½–2-inch surface layer of qualified crushed stone. The finished surface must be compacted to approximately 95% or greater.
- Drainage: The area must be properly sloped or crowned to allow water runoff. Avoid low spots, standing water, channeling, and drainage toward buildings or other structures. Weed or landscape fabric is not recommended beneath the stabilized surface.
- Edge stability: Edge restraints are recommended to improve stability and reduce edge deterioration.
- Temperature: Installation and curing require ambient and surface temperatures between 55°F and 90°F (12.7°C–32.2°C). Avoid freezing temperatures and temperatures above 100°F (38°C) during curing or storage.
- Weather and moisture: Do not install during wet conditions or within approximately 48–72 hours before or after rainfall. The aggregate and project area must be sufficiently dry before installation.
- Cure time: The surface typically becomes hard to the touch after drying and generally requires 24–72 hours to fully cure, depending on temperature, sunlight, shade, humidity, and moisture. Keep the area protected from traffic and water during this period.
- Coverage planning: Average total coverage is approximately 15 square feet per gallon, based on both the initial application and topcoat. Actual coverage may vary by material and project conditions.
