Clear Douglas-fir (often sold as Oregon Pine) — clear grade with occasional pin knots

Clear Douglas-fir is a strong, stable softwood prized for both structural and finished applications. It offers higher dimensional stability and greater structural strength than yellow pine, making it a popular choice for beams, framing, exterior doors, and durable furniture. This clear-grade lumber may contain the occasional small “pin” knot but is otherwise free of large knots and defects.

Key features:

  • Strength & stability: Excellent load-bearing properties and low tendency to warp or shrink.
  • Appearance: Warm, straight grain with a reddish-brown hue that finishes beautifully with stain or clear coat.
  • Workability: Machines, sands, nails, and holds screws well; accepts stain and paint evenly.
  • Durability: Good natural resistance for outdoor use when properly finished; commonly used for plywood, doors, beams, and furniture.
  • Typical uses: Structural beams, exterior and interior doors, window frames, millwork, cabinetry, and high-quality furniture.

Care & finishing tips:

  • Do not expose unfinished lumber to direct weather. Ideal to be used in an area that is covered and protected from the weather.
  • Recommended to be seal or finished for long outdoor life—use exterior-grade sealers or paint.
  • Pre-drill for close tolerance joinery to prevent splitting around fasteners.

Product note: This listing is for Clear Douglas-fir lumber in a clear grade with occasional pin knots.

    Beautiful clear 2x4 lumber

Posted by Scott Hower on 7th Aug 2025

I'm not a wood worker, and need all the help I can get. I previously built a bar, and now am building a desk in the kitchen. With a table saw, and very good quality wood, I can actually do a decent job! This is very high quality lumber. Ordering was easy, and soon after ordering I was notified to pick up the wood. Very pleased with the product, and the entire process.

    First-Rate Experience

Posted by Kurt Schauer on 5th Nov 2020

First-time buyer but pleasantly surprised. I needed clear 4x4 fir and couldn't find any quality lumber nearby. Found Total Wood online with exactly what I was looking for. The price was right & the quality of wood was fantastic. Felt bad for the FedEx guy who had to haul the lumber from his truck but I am very happy with the product. I would recommend Total Wood to anyone looking for superior lumber, which seems hard to find in my area these days.
