Key Characteristics
- Marine-grade construction: Made with solid wood plies and no internal voids, providing consistent strength and stability.
- Water-resistant bonding: Uses phenolic exterior-grade glue designed to withstand moisture and humid conditions.
- Durable and stable: Resists delamination and maintains its structural integrity better than standard plywood when properly sealed and maintained.
- Paint-grade surfaces: Both faces are suitable for painting and finishing.
- Lightweight options: Okoume marine plywood is valued for its low weight, making it easier to handle and well suited to weight-sensitive projects.
- Strong and versatile: Meranti marine plywood typically offers a denser, more robust panel for applications requiring added durability.
- Available in multiple thicknesses: Common options include 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4".
- Natural wood appearance: Can be painted, stained, or finished depending on the desired look.
Benefits
- Ideal for marine applications: Suitable for boatbuilding, boat repairs, cabinetry, bulkheads, decks, and interior marine components.
- Reliable in damp environments: The void-free core helps reduce weak spots where water could collect and cause damage.
- Better fastener holding: Solid plies provide dependable support for screws, hardware, and fittings.
- Easy to work with: Can be cut, shaped, sanded, and finished using standard woodworking tools.
- Professional finished appearance: Paint-grade faces provide a smooth surface for primers, paints, and protective coatings.
- Efficient material use: Full 4' × 8' sheets help reduce seams and simplify large-panel installations.
- Adaptable to many projects: Useful for exterior construction, cabinetry, furniture, transportation components, and custom woodworking.
Important note: Marine plywood is water-resistant, not completely waterproof. All edges, faces, cutouts, and fastener holes should be properly sealed and finished for long-term exposure to moisture.
Please note that this plywood is not patch-free. Both sides may contain wood patches used to achieve the paint-grade surface. If you require a premium, patch-free face, please see Hechthout® Okoume Marine Plywood.
Product availability may vary: the plywood supplied may be Okoume Marine or Aquatek Meranti Marine.
