Douglas fir lumber, also known as Oregon Pine is a very stable wood, more stable and structural than yellow pine. Doug fir is often used for exterior doors, furniture, plywood and structural beams. Doug fir is a harder wood than cedar.
These construction timbers are knotty and smooth on surface. They are often times used for rustic Mantels. Timbers come in wet. There may be some drying that has occurred before you receive the board. Please allow board to dry to a 15% to 19% moisture rate before sealing or coating. It is typical for these larger timbers to have some cracks and checks as they dry, giving them a more rustic look.
