Benefits of Smaller Redi‑Cut Panels
- Perfect fit for small projects: No need to rip or resaw large sheets — ideal for jewelry boxes, cedar chests, lining drawers, cabinet doors, drawer bottoms, and accent panels.
- Reduced waste and easier handling: Lighter, easier to store and cut, making them great for hobbyists, woodworkers, and small shops.
- Immediate use: Small panels fit common project dimensions, saving time on layout and glue‑up.
- Preserves aroma and pest resistance: Because they’re thin and aromatic, these panels are especially effective when used to line enclosed storage where the scent can concentrate.
Appearance & Character
- Natural grain and knots: Knots and limb marks are expected — aromatic cedar trees are narrow and limb-heavy, producing boards with rustic character.
- Color: Warm pinks to reddish browns that mellow with age.
Care & Finish Options
- Do not seal if you want maximum aroma and moth‑deterring properties. Finishes that fully seal the surface will substantially reduce the cedar scent and its effectiveness against moths.
- Alternative finishing approaches:
- Light surface treatments: Use thin coats of clear, low‑sheen penetrating oil (e.g., tung or raw linseed, sparely applied) or a very thin wipe of a natural oil to enhance grain while retaining some aroma. Test on a scrap first.
- Partial sealing: Finish only exposed edges or the exterior side of a box; leave interior surfaces unfinished to preserve scent where it matters most.
- Spot treatment: Apply finish to joinery or edges to improve durability while leaving large interior surfaces untreated.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners or prolonged moisture exposure.
- Refreshing scent: Lightly sanding interior surfaces will revive aroma; replace panels after many years if scent diminishes.
Usage Tips
- Allow panels to acclimate to workshop humidity before final assembly to reduce movement.
- Pretest finishes on a scrap panel to confirm appearance and scent retention.
- When using for lining, leave a small air gap behind paneling for airflow to help distribute aroma.
Shipping & Size Note
- Panels are cut from 4' x 8' sheets in our woodshop. Expect a saw kerf variance of approximately +/- 1/4".
These redi‑cut aromatic cedar panels are an easy, attractive way to add natural pest protection, fragrance, and classic cedar character to small woodworking and storage projects.
