Western Red Cedar kiln-dried lumber board is often used for exterior handrails and fencing, among other exterior projects. This board is 2" thick, actual 1-3/4" thick.  This Cedar is STK (Select Tight knot) allowing for knots that are tight. This material is S4S, meaning it has been surfaced on both faces and both edges.

Western Red Cedar is a softwood known for its stability, straight grain and durability in exterior climates. Cedar is naturally resistant to rot and decay without any treatment. Western Red Cedar is normally reddish-brown in color, however color varies from board to board. Cedar ages to a natural silver-gray color when left unfinished outdoors. Western Red Cedar is very popular to use in exterior projects like decks, garden beds, arbors, fences, shingles, and siding to name just a few. This wood is sometimes favored over treated yellow pine for exterior projects due to it being lighter and more stable. But Cedar does have acid properties which can be corrosive to some metals, therefore copper, stainless steel or galvanized nails or screws should be used.

    Good quality and careful packaging

    Posted by E. G. on 14th Feb 2021

I ordered a 2x8 cedar lumber from the Total Wood Store because I do not want to visit the local lumberyard in person due to the pandemic. The purchase cost and shipping of this item were on the high side. However, I was pleasantly surprised when FedEx ground dropped the package near my door. The lumber was protected with cardboard pieces along all edges inside the outer cardboard box. I ordered lumber online from other lumberyards in the past, and the lumber never arrived protected this way. I will likely order more lumber from Total Wood Store if the pandemic will not subside soon.
