The Hickory was softer than I needed. Also, the dowels were not straight enough for me at that length.

Has a good bow in it, was looking to cut it down to 48 and turn it but itβs a little scratchy.

72" x 1 1/4" Hickory dowel
I am very pleased with this order. I make training weapons for martial arts and I was hesitant about ordering because the 72 x 1" rods were very bowed and it took a lot to make them usable. These 1 1/4" inch are very true and I am willing to continue to order again.

Great hickory staff for martial arts!
Okay, I know these are probably meant to be closet rods, but... the 1 1/4 inch hickory dowel is a nice, sturdy 6-foot staff for practicing Chinese or Japanese martial arts. Soften the sharp edges at the ends with some sandpaper and give it a few coats of tung oil, and you'll have a much nicer staff than the flimsy things they sell at martial arts stores. Shipping was quick, the packaging was solid, and both of the dowels I received were straight and in excellent condition.

I ordered 3qty 6' 2" round red oak dowels for handrails. The items were well packed and arrived in great condition. Very smooth and accurate. Slightly longer than 72β to disallow any deviations that would ruin needs. Very solid and consistent density. Very good wood :)
