Face & finish
- Face: real ash veneer, unfinished—ready to stain, seal, oil, or lacquer to match your project.
- Veneer thickness: typical thin-veneer profile suitable for edge-trimming and flush routing (confirm if exact thickness is required for tooling setups).
Available backers & intended uses
- Fleece Backer (500' rolls): Highly flexible for curved or radiused edges. Recommended application with contact cement for best adhesion. Excellent choice for complex shapes and continuous long runs.
- Hot Melt Glue (HM) Backer (250' rolls): EVA hot-melt adhesive pre-applied for iron-activation—fast, production-friendly application with no additional adhesive required. Best for straight edges and quick installs.
- 3M Peel & Stick Backer (250' rolls; currently available in 7/8" only): Pressure-sensitive adhesive for quick, clean application—no heat or contact cement required. Ideal for small jobs and quick repairs.
Installation guidance (best practices)
- Surface prep: clean, dry, and free of dust/oil. Rough-sand very smooth laminates or painted surfaces to improve adhesion.
- Fleece Backer (contact cement):
- Apply thin coat of contact cement to both panel edge and edgeband; allow to become tacky per cement instructions (usually a few minutes).
- Align carefully, press into place, and smooth out air bubbles with a roller or firm pressure.
- Trim flush with a sharp knife or router; sand smooth.
- Hot Melt Glue Backer (iron-on):
- Use a household or edgebanding iron set to medium-high. Cover veneer with a cotton cloth while ironing to protect the face.
- Move iron in a steady circular motion; do not dwell in one spot to avoid scorching.
- Press with a roller or block immediately after heating for full contact; trim and sand.
- 3M Peel & Stick:
- Ensure surface is clean; use a tack cloth to remove sawdust.
- Peel backing paper and apply, pressing firmly with a roller to remove bubbles.
- Trim and sand as needed.
- Trimming & finishing: use a sharp utility knife, razor scraper, or flush-trim router bit; finish edges with 180–320 grit sanding and apply your chosen finish.
