Product Description
Soft Maple Hardwood Lumber Boards - Surfaced S4S (surfaced four sides) and kiln-dried. This board is more finished than our S2S1E boards and cut from our S2S material. Although surfaced, additional dressing and sanding of the boards may be needed to complete your project.
These boards are graded F.A.S. (First and Seconds) where the front face is fairly clear. The back side can have a few knots, wane and other minor defects, especially on boards wider than 5 inches. There can be an occasional end check (small crack at end of board). This species has a slightly higher tendency to warp compared to other options, but with proper care, it can still deliver impressive results.
Soft Maple, also known as Red Maple, is 25% softer than Hard Maple. It is grown in Canada and the USA. The color can be a light to dark reddish brown sometimes with a faint purplish hue or gray-green hue. Soft Maple is used for furniture, flooring and musical instruments. Soft Maple can be difficult to glue.

6/4 S4S Soft Maple
Two 6/4 x 1 12" x 5' sticks were promptly received. They were straight, without end splits, and clean without knots or structural deficiencies, as requested. Although they were S4S squared they were not smoothed surfaces. Be prepared to do jointing and planing or at least significant sanding to achieve smooth surfaces, and choose your sizing accordingly.
