Profile Measurement: 1-1/4" x 4-9/16"

Here's a breakdown of the differences between the three types of door jambs:

Primed Pine Door Jamb:

  • Material: Made from solid pine wood.
  • Areas of Use: Suitable for interior applications or protected areas away from direct exposure to the elements. Ideal to be used on an interior door to a garage, screened-in porch, or exterior area that has a large porch. Not recommended for coastal areas without significant treatment (e.g., marine-grade sealants).
  • Features: Primed with a base coat, ready for painting. It offers a traditional look and can be shaped or trimmed easily.
  • Durability: Wood is susceptible to moisture, rot, and warping if not properly maintained or if exposed to high humidity
  • Aesthetics: Can be stained or painted to match the interior decor.

Primed Solid PVC Door Jamb:

  • Material: Made from solid PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which is a type of plastic.
  • Features: Primed for paint adherence. It is resistant to moisture and does not rot or warp like wood. A better option for coastal environments than wood.
  • Durability: Highly durable, it lasts longer in damp or humid environments without deterioration. It can withstand high humidity and is less likely to warp due to temperature changes.
  • Aesthetics: Can be painted but may not have the same texture or feel as wood.

High Gloss Capped PVC Wrap with a Composite Core Door Jamb:

  • Material: A composite core (which may include wood particles or fibers) that's wrapped in a White High Gloss PVC coating.
  • Features: The slick protective exterior provides resistance to moisture, scratches, and fading. This type often combines the benefits of wood and plastic.
  • Durability: Very durable, resistant to warping and cracking, and easier to clean than wood. This is the best choice for extreme weather conditions and coastal applications. The protective coating provides excellent durability against moisture, UV rays, and salt air, preventing deterioration.
  • Best Use: Highly recommended for outdoor applications and areas exposed to harsh environmental conditions, such as beach houses, coastal commercial buildings, and areas subject to heavy rain and wind.
  • Aesthetics: Offers a clean, modern look with added durability benefits. However, this is not a paintable option.

Summary

  • Primed Wood Jambs: Traditional, paint-ready, highlight beauty but can be susceptible to moisture damage. Not ideal for coastal conditions; best for protected, interior use.
  • Primed Solid PVC Jambs: Durable, moisture-resistant, and low maintenance. More resistant to moisture; suitable for exterior use but may still have limitations compared to PVC wrapped composite jamb. Ideal option for exterior applications that need to be painted to match existing door jamb.
  • PVC Wrapped Composite Core Jambs: Blend of durability and aesthetics, providing a modern look with excellent resistance to environmental factors. Optimal for extreme weather conditions; fantastic durability and protection, making it the best choice for coastal environments. Ideal when a high gloss white jamb is needed and doesn't need to be painted to match existing door jamb.

Each type has its advantages, and the best choice will depend on your specific needs, including location, desired aesthetics, and maintenance preferences.

    Exterior jamb

I used this composite jamb clad with PVC to repair two feet of wooden jamb which had rotted out. For the hinge side repair, I was able to neatly mortise the jamb for the hinge, which I have found is hard for me to do when using full PVC composite.

I love that this exists as I have a few jobs to splice in the bottom 12" of jamb.

    Composite Jamb

Posted by Keith on 19th Sep 2024

I had a door frame that rotted out on the bottom on boht sides, from weather exposure. I bought this and after cutting out the damaged portion, I placed this in it's place. After filling with Bondo, sanding, caulking and painting everything looks great. This should resist the elements much better. This cut easily on my chop saw, just like wood, and both nailed and sanded easily. Good product.

Cuts easily with a backsaw, paints like wood, easy fix for the base of a door jamb that rotted out after only ten years. Hopefully this will last longer. Took about an hour to finish. Saved a ton of money DIY. Shipped quick. Thanks, guys!
