Medium density overlay plywood, or MDO panel, is a paintable surface made of plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood by heat and pressure. The overlay, which has at least 27% resin content, resists water, weather, wear and degradation.
MDO is an ideal for sign painting or a sign board. The plywood below the paper face is smooth, clear and free of patches, providing a smooth surface with minimal grain showing through. This resin paper face can either be on one side (G1S) or both sides (G2S) of the plywood. Available in 3/8", 1/2" or 3/4" thickness in 2'x4' sheets or a full 4'x8' sheet in a pack of 5.
MDO plywood is water-proof and weather-resistant. Paint finishes on MDO are up to three times more durable than the same finish applied to ordinary plywood. MDO is designed to have a smooth, paint-receptive surface.
MDO plywood can be sawn, nailed, routed, shaped and drilled. Although this product is designed for exterior use, it works well inside the home in areas that need to be smooth and hold up well to moisture. This product resists inclement weather areas well. It is often used for exterior signs and sub-board underneath laminates for countertops. It is recommended to apply an exterior grade primer and paint to this product if using in an exterior application. Primer and paint adhere nicely to the paper face. When applied with exterior grade primer and paint, this product holds up much better than regular plywood.

I have never used MDO wood before, but it is great for signs. I needed 2 x 2' sizes and Total Wood was great about cutting it for me. I would order again.
