Chelsea post tops are made in our wood shop. The tops can provide a simple way to add a decorative touch to 4" X 4" or 6" X 6" deck or fence posts.
Tops can be installed by applying an exterior caulk to the under-side or by simply nailing the post top with an exterior grade finishing nail.
Exposure to sun and weather will cause tops to check and crack. To prevent damage, it is recommended to protect all sides of tops with an exterior grade finish.
BEFORE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Whether you choose a treated or cedar cap, please apply a sealer on ALL wood parts (top, bottom, inside and sides) of the cap BEFORE installation. Please note, treated yellow pine is less stable than Cedar. Applying and maintaining a sealer on the caps will help minimize this movement over time and give you a much longer life of your cap. For more stability, choose a Cedar cap and seal well before installation.
